Hi there,
How are you doing? Just thought I'd better do a little introduction to this blog and explain what it's all about!
Do you ever walk in a room and smell a memory? It happens to me, especially with proper toast - an uncut, bakers, slice of white bread which is then toasted to the perfect brown. It always makes me think of my Aunty Enid and Uncle John's farmhouse kitchen and the love that always filled the room, along with the amazing food. They have both passed, along with my Mum and Dad, and I've had this pull to start recreating some of their recipes, along with other nostalgic, memory making food - be it old school puddings, those dishes from treasured holidays, childhood favourites or even the ones that went wrong!
So come along for the ride and please let me know if there are any recipes you would like me to make - I'll be sharing videos on my TikTok @melmyselfandme and Instagram @pearlnovarecipes
Below are a couple of photos from a recipe book I have dated 1899 which was in my mum's collection - unfortunately I have no idea who wrote in it or who added the newspaper clipping from 1935 (my mum wasn't born until 1938, her mum, my nan, in 1898 and my nan never knew her mum so they are not from her).
Lots of love
Mel xx 💕
